About Us

Buying a home is hard enough; creating your dream home shouldn’t be. When it comes to contractors, it can be challenging to decide who is the best fit. That’s where I come in.

My name is Zac Cyr and I am a General Contractor. Originally from New Jersey, I moved to VT to pursue my degree in legal studies at Champlain College. Upon graduating, I sought out a career in what I knew best; fine home building. I’ve arguably been in this industry my entire life. Growing up, I worked with my father in land development.  In 2016 I began subcontracting and in 2018 I established Brown Trout Design and Build.  I took that time to hone my craft. While my work is best tailored to fine carpentry and furniture construction, I’ve taken every step to become a top-rated tile setter, painter, and drywaller as well.

I pride myself on quality, affordability, and honesty. Working in the trades is a science and it should be treated as such. Working together is learning together. My goal is to stay on budget, finish on time, and complete the project with satisfied clients.

We are a one-stop shop for home renovation. We are so much more than a general contractor. We are a full-service design/build firm that manages your project from concept to creation, inside and out.

Our talented selection of architects, engineers, carpenters, and other contractors work together seamlessly to provide design details and expertise over every aspect of your home remodel. That means our designers and architects create a plan that works structurally and within your budget. The right hand always knows what the left hand is doing, and our entire team is at your side every step of the way.

Our Process

We have the skills and resources to help move your dream project from an idea to a reality. From the initial concept design, permitting, and finally, to finish work, our team efficiently and effectively moves your project to completion.

1. Sharing Your Vision With Us

We meet, walk through the space and discuss your proposed project. If permitted, we take both pictures and videos to review details with our team collaborators. We use this time to assess our fit for the project and clarify a realistic estimated budget.  To move forward into the big picture phase one design process, a Design & Specifications Concept Proposal will be signed and a deposit made.   We understand this is a premium partnership.  We are confident we will earn your business. Happiness guaranteed!

2. Laying Out The Project

Within a few weeks, our design team will have a first draft space plan.  Our construction project manager will have scheduled a site visit with, as needed our plumber, electrician, HVAC, and other experts.  We collaborate with concept sketches during design to visualize and we create ballpark allowances for specific materials.  We schedule a visit to showrooms as needed to create realistic budgets.  We then culminate this into a remodeling contract.   While not every detail and material is decided, there is enough to make a decision on choosing us to create your dream space.  To move forward you sign the Remodel Contract with detailed allowances and place a deposit for the full in-depth design package which may include architectural and engineering services.

3. Project Execution

As the design progresses our construction project manager begins to lay out a proposed schedule and draw a schedule.  After a material deposit, material purchase orders are processed and finally, the day arrives to begin. After a pre-construction site visit, it’s time to get to work.  Now the experts really shine!  Craftsmen and masters of trade bring what's on paper into existence.  Though you may wait weeks or more after selecting materials, we will get your renovation underway as soon as possible. We’re as excited about your living work of art as you are. Zach Cyr personally oversees the direction of your project and troubleshoots so you don’t have to, but keeps you abreast of developments if you like, so you have all the information you need.  It's here that synergy is literally seen as our expertise and your style brings about the most perfect space just for you!

4. Final Steps

We take pride in leaving a completely polished product. We add finishing touches and provide our designers one last time to shine.  They coordinate furnishings, window treatments, and decor.  Even fluff a throw pillow here and arrange flowers there ...

What is the process of design-build?

Our design-build remodeling company means that a well-planned team helps you dream, plan, and build your remodel. Our expert collaboration handles every step of the process. This full-service process is evident in the ease you experience. Our design-build process starts with your ideas and inspiration and ends with your dream space.

What are the advantages of design-build?

The designer and builder are on the same team. They are collaborating on feasibility, and materials, which helps them create more imaginative custom designs. They are used to solving problems together, leading them to quick and innovative solutions should something unexpected arise.

In contrast, when separate teams try to lead the same project, the client becomes the de facto project manager. Will your architect, designer, or builder’s version of your vision align? Design-build firms avoid these headaches and responsibilities by uniting experts under a well-curated team. Zach Cyr personally orchestrates the direction of your project and the team integrates well.  This provides peace of mind for you and stunning results that speak for themselves.

How does a design-build contractor work?

A design-build remodeler completes your entire project instead of you having to farm out scattered pieces to many different trades. No worries for you to guess if it will all fit together. Brown Trout Built is your remodel and design team!  They work together at every step to create your kitchen or bathroom renovation, fostering seamless builds and masterful remodeling without any hassle for you.
